Parts of Haiti, including the area surrounding the U.S. embassy in Port-au-Prince, have been plunged into darkness following attacks on a power plant and four power substations. According to a report by Électricité D’Haïti (EDH), the premises of the power company were vandalized, materials were destroyed, and documents were damaged during the recent acts of sabotage.
The Varreux Power Plant and the four power substations in Port-au-Prince were completely destroyed, resulting in a power outage at the USA Embassy Entrance and a local hospital. Vandals also stole important documents, electrical installations, cables, batteries, and equipment during the attacks.
Amidst the chaos in Haiti, nearly 1,000 Americans have filled out a crisis intake form seeking assistance. The State Department has described the situation in Haiti as one of the most dire humanitarian crises in the world, citing rampant gang violence and security concerns.
In response to the escalating violence, the Pentagon has been put on alert for potential maritime mass migration from Haiti. The safety and security of American citizens in Haiti remains the State Department’s highest priority, with officials closely monitoring the situation and providing assistance where needed.
As Haiti continues to grapple with civil unrest and instability, the international community is keeping a close eye on the developing crisis and working towards finding a solution to ensure the safety and well-being of all those affected by the turmoil.
