Eleven passengers and crew members were hospitalized after experiencing severe turbulence on a Delta flight from Milan to Atlanta. Flight 175 had departed from Milan and was approximately 40 miles northeast of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport when the crew reported the turbulence. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, and the aircraft landed safely around 7 pm local time.
Videos captured and shared online depict paramedics carrying passengers on stretchers, with one individual wearing a neck brace. Despite the alarming visuals, airport officials assured the public that none of the injuries were life-threatening. A female passenger who witnessed the aftermath of the turbulence disclosed that she saw approximately 12 people with serious head injuries, noting a significant amount of blood.
Passengers who emerged from the incident unharmed had to wait for approximately two hours before they were allowed to deplane. Delta’s Care Team has been actively providing support to both injured customers and crew members. Additionally, the airline is offering affected passengers complimentary food, lodging, and assistance with re-booking their flights.
Concerning the incident, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an official investigation. The agency will evaluate the circumstances surrounding the turbulence aboard Delta Flight 175, aiming to determine the root cause of the incident and implement any necessary safety measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
