Passengers on a LATAM Airlines flight from Sydney endure terrifying experience
Passengers aboard a LATAM Airlines flight from Sydney to Auckland found themselves in a frightening situation when their plane suddenly nosedived, causing injuries to dozens of passengers. The more than 200 passengers on board were left shaken and traumatized after the incident, during which the airline was accused of ignoring them for hours.
Upon landing in Auckland, New Zealand, the passengers were given only a McDonald’s cheeseburger to eat and were not transported to local hotels until at least 2 a.m. Passengers voiced their frustration at the lack of clear instructions and support from the airline, with some having to assist injured passengers themselves.
Despite the chaos, LATAM Airlines has offered to reimburse passengers for expenses incurred during the crisis. However, the airline has not agreed to reimburse the passengers for the airfare for the trip. The cause of the sudden drop in altitude that led to injuries and panic on the flight remains unclear, with investigations ongoing.
New Zealand’s Transport Accident Investigation Commission has taken possession of the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder to aid in the investigation. Thankfully, the majority of injured passengers were discharged from the hospital with no life-threatening risks. As of Tuesday, only four passengers remained in the hospital following the incident.
The incident has left passengers shaken and questioning the response of the airline in handling the crisis. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the sudden nosedive, and passengers are hoping for answers and reassurance as they recover from the traumatic experience.
