LeBron James and Tyrese Haliburton have been selected to make their mark in this year’s NBA All-Star Game, hosted at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on February 18. James will be making a record-breaking 20th consecutive start, while Haliburton will be representing the Pacers as the starting point guard for the Eastern Conference for the first time.
The voting results were recently released on TNT, revealing the starting lineups for both the East and West teams. Joining Haliburton in the East will be Damian Lillard, Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Jayson Tatum. James will be joined by Luka Dončić, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, and Kevin Durant in the West starting lineup.
The fan vote played a significant role in deciding the starters, accounting for 50% of the selection process, while player and media votes each accounted for 25%. Despite currently nursing leg injuries, both Haliburton and James are expected to be healthy and ready to showcase their skills in the All-Star Game.
However, there were some notable players who narrowly missed out on starting spots. Trae Young and Jalen Brunson were edged out in the East, while Stephen Curry narrowly missed out in the West.
In a departure from the format of recent years, the All-Star Game will once again revert back to the traditional East vs. West format, rather than the playground-style picking by top vote getters. The game will consist of four 12-minute quarters, abandoning the “Elam” scoring model used in recent years.
James and Antetokounmpo were selected as captains based on their vote totals in each conference. Additionally, charity donations will be awarded to the highest-scoring teams in each quarter, adding another layer of excitement and purpose to the game.
These changes to the All-Star Game are aimed at increasing the competitiveness and entertainment value for both players and fans alike. Haliburton has been averaging an impressive 23.6 points and 12.6 assists per game before his hamstring injury, while James continues to display his dominance on the court, averaging 24.8 points, 7.4 assists, and 7.2 rebounds per game despite an ankle injury. Embiid, on the other hand, has been leading the league in scoring with an impressive 36.1 points per game.
All eyes will be on the court as these talented players showcase their skills and compete for glory in what promises to be an action-packed and thrilling NBA All-Star Game.
