Google One VPN Service to be Discontinued Later this Year
Google has announced that its Google One VPN service will be discontinued later this year, as reported in an email sent to customers. The VPN service, which was originally launched for Android in October 2020 and later expanded to iOS devices and Macs in 2022, will no longer be available for users.
Initially, the VPN service was part of Google One’s Premium 2TB storage plan, priced at $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year. However, last year, availability was expanded to all Google One plans, including the cheapest option for $1.99 per month. Despite these efforts to make the service more accessible, Google has decided to discontinue it due to low usage.
Existing users of the Google One VPN service will be directed to third-party VPN alternatives. However, Google will still offer VPN functionality through its Google Fi cellular service. Additionally, Pixel users with Pixel 7 or newer models will still be able to access Google’s VPN features through Pixel settings.
This decision by Google reflects the constantly evolving technology landscape and the need for companies to adapt to user preferences and demands. As VPN services continue to grow in popularity and become more widespread, it is important for companies like Google to reevaluate their offerings and focus on services that provide the most value to their customers.
