Coach Michael Malone had challenged his team to play like defending champions, and the Nuggets responded in impressive fashion. Jamal Murray led the charge with 24 points, 18 of which came in the first half, fueled by the boos from the Minnesota crowd. Murray, who had been dealing with a troublesome calf strain, thrived in his role as the villain and helped spark his team to victory.
Nikola Jokic also had a standout performance, contributing 24 points, 14 rebounds, 9 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. Jokic led the Nuggets in the third quarter, showcasing his diverse skill set and proving why he is a key player for Denver.
The Nuggets’ starters all scored in double figures, demonstrating a championship-caliber performance. Michael Porter Jr. added 21 points, while Aaron Gordon chipped in with 13 points, including three three-pointers.
On the Timberwolves’ side, Anthony Edwards led with 19 points but also had a game-high five turnovers. Edwards and his teammate Mike Conley took accountability for the loss and acknowledged the need to adjust their play moving forward.
