Brightline West to Launch High-Speed Train Connecting Southern California to Las Vegas by 2028
Brightline, a private company known for its high-speed intercity rail line connecting Miami to Orlando, is now gearing up to launch a new project that will revolutionize transportation in the Southwest. The company has announced plans to build a high-speed train connecting Southern California to Las Vegas by 2028, with a price tag of $12 billion.
The project will see the construction of a 218-mile federally subsidized electric rail system along Interstate 15, aimed at reducing pollution and easing congestion on the busy highway. U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has hailed the project as a pivotal moment in the high-speed rail era in the U.S., with expectations that it will cut 800 million pounds of carbon pollution annually.
The federal government has committed $3 billion in funding for the project, with the remaining amount being privately funded through tax-exempt bonds. The rail line will run within the highway median and support speeds of up to 200 mph, with 322 miles of overhead electrical lines to power the trains.
While exact ticket prices have not yet been announced, estimates suggest that fares could range from 50 cents to $1 per mile. Stations along the route will be strategically located in Rancho Cucamonga, Hesperia, Victor Valley, and Las Vegas, with ample parking facilities at each location.
With construction already underway, the high-speed train connecting Southern California to Las Vegas is set to transform travel in the region and provide a sustainable alternative to driving. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new development in the transportation industry.
