Four law enforcement officers were tragically killed and four others were injured in a shooting incident in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident unfolded when officers were serving a warrant at a residence against Terry Clark Hughes Jr. Hughes, armed with a high-powered rifle, opened fire on the officers, causing multiple injuries and fatalities.
Authorities swiftly responded to the scene and the suspect was fatally shot on the lawn of the house. Two other individuals found inside the home were taken into custody for questioning. At the scene, a .40 caliber handgun, a semi-automatic AR-15 rifle, and additional ammunition were recovered.
In total, eight officers were shot, with three members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force and one officer from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department losing their lives. Memorial services have been held to honor the fallen officers, with flowers placed at various locations across the city.
The suspect, Terry Clark Hughes Jr., had a checkered past with a long criminal history that included prior felony convictions. President Joe Biden extended his condolences and hailed the officers as heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
