Private Sector Employment Sees Strong Growth in October, ADP National Employment Report Reveals
According to the October ADP National Employment Report, private sector employment in the United States experienced a significant boost with the addition of 113,000 jobs. This data, which is based on actual payroll information from over 25 million U.S. employees, indicates a positive trend in the job market.
One notable highlight from the report is the substantial increase in annual pay, which rose by 5.7 percent compared to the previous year. This growth in wages reflects a positive economic outlook for workers across various sectors.
In terms of job creation, the report unveiled a shift in the trajectory of the post-pandemic recovery. While the leisure and hospitality industry initially led the employment rebound, the sector relinquished its top spot to education and health care in October. Despite this change, the overall job market continues to display strength and resilience.
Regional analysis revealed diverse employment patterns across the country. The Northeast recorded a notable addition of 21,000 jobs, while the Midwest experienced a loss of 13,000 jobs. The South showcased robust growth with the creation of 64,000 jobs, and the West saw an increase of 46,000 jobs.
The report also delved into job growth within different types of establishments. Small establishments contributed 19,000 jobs, medium establishments added 78,000 jobs, and large establishments saw the addition of 18,000 jobs. This balanced growth showcases the resilience of businesses across various scales.
However, while job growth remained strong, pay growth for job-stayers experienced a slowdown in October. The rate of increase in wages for individuals who stayed in their respective jobs dropped to a two-year low at 5.7 percent year-over-year. On the other hand, job-changers enjoyed a pay increase of 8.4 percent, although this marked the smallest increase since July 2021.
The ADP National Employment Report offers valuable insights into pay growth trends by industry sector and firm size. By examining these data points, policymakers and economists can make informed decisions to drive sustained economic growth.
Looking ahead, the ADP National Employment Report for November 2023 is set to be released on December 6, 2023. It will provide further analysis and updates on the state of the U.S. job market, helping individuals and businesses alike stay informed about employment trends.
