Mazatlan’s Mayor delivers mattresses and food to victims of tropical storm IVO
Mayor Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres visited families of the Nov 20 Colonia, which was most affected by the overflow of the Jabalines stream after the rains caused by Tropical Storm Ivo.Around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday the Mayor toured the streets of the settlement where he delivered mattresses, mats, food hampers and backpacks with school supplies to families affected by the downpours of “Ivo”.
During his visit, Benítez Torres mentioned that the Government of Mazatlan is greatly concerned by the situation in the Colonia as well as the Indeco Jacarandas, Villa Jaraco, Villa colonia Satellite, and Lico Velarde colonias.
DIF Mazatlan staff, headed by its director, Roberto Rodríguez Lizárraga, reported that in the Colonia Nov 20, 109 homes were damaged, and the first supplies delivered, included 109 food hampers, 60 mattresses, 14 mats and several school bags.
On the tour, the Mayor was accompanied by area directors and staff of the Municipality. The Mayor observed that in some homes the water accumulated by over a meter, which caused the total loss of household goods.
More supplies are being delivered today to affected families.
