Public bike program at risk?

Mayor Luis Fernando Benitez said that they are analyzing the continuity of the public bike program before extending it to other areas in Sinaloa State.

The State Government was hoping to extend the public bike project to the Downtown area as part of a sustainability program.

However, according to the Mayor, the company in charge of the program is not in compliance with the agreements.

“From one day to another, the Company decided to install bike signals in the city avenues without consulting us and without planning it properly to ensure safety. They were just working for their own benefit and we can not allow them to do whatever the want in our City”. said the Mayor

They are violating many of the rules they promised to follow. To me, most importantly, is the enforcement of no more than seven bikes at one station. They agreed to fine users for leaving bikes at a station which was full and to move the bikes as necessary. To my best knowledge, they are doing neither. In fact, most mornings, the company loads bike up in front of IMSS. Overloaded bike stations create a mess and take up way too much space. The city is being abused
