The sad end of Mazatlan’s palm trees!

According to the Mazatlan Ecology Department there are a total of 1,285 palm trees around the City, 231 (18%) of the palms are completely dead, 585 (45%) are infected by a bacteria, 55 palms are close to dying, 167 are in so-so condition, 12 had to be cut down and only 235(18%) are healthy.

Luis Gonzalez, Public Services Director, said that unfortunately, during the previous Administration the palm trees were not planted properly and bacteria were found in their roots and that is why most of them are dying.

With the help of experts sent by the State of Sinaloa, they are being treated with scheduled watering, nutrients and pesticides for the bacteria in an effort to save the palms.
