Highly poisonous scorpions found in Mazatlan!

Sinaloa’s Health Department is reinforcing pest control measures after the increase of scorpion stings in Mazatlan, by two very poisonous species.

In Mazatlan, San Ignacio and Concordia extensive fumigation has been conducted to fight the scorpion infestation.

Victor Arredondo, Sanitary Inspector, said that the most poisonous scorpions have been located in Mazatlan and those were captured to be analyzed in the laboratory.

Health authorities are asking the public to be extremely cautious mainly during the hot weather season when scorpions leave their burrows to hide in dark and humid places like closets, boxes, shoes or furniture.

Scorpion stings are painful but rarely life-threatening. Young children, and sometimes the very old, are most at risk of serious complications. Nevertheless, authorities recommend seeking immediate medical care in case of a scorpion sting.
