West Jet and Sunwing will have more flights from Canada to Mazatlan

Canadian airlines Sunwing and WestJet announced that they will increase the number of flights from 8 Canadian Cities to Mazatlan.

The President and Vice President of the airlines, Andrew Dawson and Dave Cecco, respectively, said that this will help to increase the number of passengers during the winter season that last year was 30,000 passengers.

The announcement was made at the Opening of Mexico Mining Day in Toronto with the presence of Sinaloa Governor Quirino Ordaz.

Sunwing started flying to Mazatlan 8 years ago. Today, they fly from Montreal, Vancouver , Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, and Toronto.

This year Ottawa will be added as a gateway to Mazatlan.

Andrew Dawson said that flights to Mazatlan have an average occupancy of 90%.

Dave Decco said that the flight from Calgary to Mazatlan from October to May has been so successful that they will have this itinerary year around.

We have been waiting for a long time for WestJet to fly from Winnipeg to Mazatlán. We are tired of having to fly through Calgary and then having to overnight on the way home. Thank you.

I totally agree. I fly out of Winnipeg to Mazatlan and it is such an extra cost factor with the added overnights. And many who fly this route are an aging population and it makes it difficult with connections. Many Manitobans are opting for destinations with direct flights to other destinations based on this. West Jet used to fly out of Winnipeg before Mazatlan got so popular.

But will Westjet and Sunwing allow flights from Ottawa one way? Right now, Sunwing from Toronto only conveniences those on 1 or 2 week returns not those that stay for months.

WE COULD USE A DIRECT FLIGHT FROM WINNIPEG TO MAZATLAN.Not only for Winnipeg but the surrounding area.

WestJet used to fly from Winnipeg, touch down in Puerto Vallarta and then on to Mazatlán. We absolutely hate having to go through Calgary or Vancouver. Coming back from Mazatlán you have to overnight it in Vancouver or Calgary.
This year we flew with Delta.
