2019 Mazatlan Challenge Cup

It has been a long time coming, often talked about and kick around of having an inter-club golf competition between Marina Mazatlan, Estrella Del Mar and El Cid Golf and country club.
Larry Ruf, Paul Brilovich and David Powell meet to formulate a 3 day competition between the golf courses and the MAZATLAN CHALLENGE CUP was born!
Starting on February 17, 18, & 20th the team event would consist of two days of best ball matches and the final day with single matches. The winner of the event would be calculated on a total point system.
Day one was played at Marina Mazatlan where all three teams were decked out in green, red and white shirts showing off the colours of the Mexican flag. On day one the home course did not fair so well with 97 points at the end of day one, while El Cid won the day with 116 points and Estrella Del Mar posting a very respectful 111 points.
Day two had the elements of a very windy day and true to form the home course team at Estrella Del Mar did not disappoint posting 125 points, Marina Mazatlan fought hard on the day and managed to scrape out 106 points, while the wind got the better of the El Cid team and posted 94 points. After 2 days Estrella Del Mar was leading with 235 points, El CID with 210 points and Marina Mazatlan with 203 points.
With a day off and the team captains strategizing for the singles matches to try and capture the MAZATLAN CHALLENGE CUP on Wednesday realizing that anything could happen on day 3.
Once again the weather was a big part of the day. With winds blowing up to 30 Km, the El CID team managed the wind on their home course for a stunning comeback with a win on the final match of the day to capture the first trophy for the MAZATLAN CHALLENGE CUP with 335 points just cutting out Estrella Del Mar with 333 points and Marina Mazatlan with 304 points.
The teams were very thankful to the golf courses of Marina Mazatlan, Estrella Del Mar and El CID Country Club for hosting the event and offering prizes for the closest to pins on all three days and a wonderful dinner by the host course of El CID. All the players had a wonderful time and are looking forward to next seasons event.
