RIU Groupo announces a US$40 million investment in Mazatlan

Carmen Riu announced during a meeting with Sinaloa Governor, Quirino Ordaz, that the Spanish Group RIU is going to invest $40 million dollars to expand their hotel in Mazatlan adding 300 new rooms and increasing amenities for their guests such as restaurants, pools and entertainment area.

The Governor said that this is great news and shows the confidence of the investors in Mazatlan and also how the investors’ perception of the destination has been improving as a result of Tianguis Turistico, revamping of Malecon, as well as the Central Park and new Aquarium project, but mainly the hard work to ensure public safety.

“Mazatlan is looking good, the first 2 years were very tough but now we are very happy and that is why we are adding 300 more rooms”, said Carmen Riu

She added that the extension will be completed by the end of this year and the RIU’s guests will have more areas for entertainment or relaxation depending on their choice.

“The beach is fantastic and downtown is very close. Mazatlan is one of the favourite destinations for locals, we can have a lot of local tourists”, said Carmen talking about the advantages of Mazatlan.

“I suggested RIU Group to buy more lands in Mazatlan considering the growth that they are experiencing, with the extension they are going to have one thousand rooms. We also talked about Playa Espiritu and the project of train route from Mazatlan to the Copper Canyon and they are very interested” said Governor Quirino Ordaz.
