Mazatlan might install solar panels for public lighting

Public Services Directorate of Mazatlan is analyzing the installation of solar panels for public lighting with the objective of saving resources and moving to new technology.

The Public Services Director said that this will represent monthly savings of $7 million pesos that is being paid to CFE (The electricity company) and this economic resource can be relocated to other government areas.

“We want to be one step ahead in terms of technology and having public lighting completely independent from CFE through solar panels, this is going to be great for the Municipio and all the citizens,” said the Director

He also said that the analysis has just begun and in about 3 months they will have a complete report in order to make a decision.

The project is to change all the public lighting – about 35,000 street lights – in the city could be switched to solar systems.
