According to the State Secretary of Tourism office, this weekend (Nov. 18-21) is “El Buen Fin” weekend in Mexico when special discounts are offered to consumers in anticipation of upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays.

Canaco representative in Mazatlan, Guillermo Romero Rodriguez, invited local businesses to register to be included in the weekend discount promotion. The following stores have registered and may be worth a look if you’re thinking of getting an early start on this year’s Christmas presents:

C&A Mexico
Coppel
Fabricas de Francia
Sanborns
Supermarkets: Bodega Aurrera, Comercial Mexicana, Casa Ley, Sams Club, Soriana, Walmart
Specialty Stores: Autozone de Mexico, Cadena Comercial Oxxo, Grupo Milano, Deportes Marti, Farmacia Guadalajara, Farmacias Benavides, Grupo Devlyn, Home Depot, Office Depot, Radio Shack, Volkswagen, Zapateria Tres Hermanos and Senor Frogs

boy, the state tourism board is so very retro and so very mediocre…here shilling for private companies’ sales….also, the term Black Friday has historically meant and continues to mean only one thing….I notice the poor usage of this term quite a lot lately…it has a real stigma to it, a dark connotation…

      Jah,

First, FYI it was President Calderon who challenged Mexican businesses to offer deep discounts this past weekend, the last long weekend of 2011, and it came at the same time as all Mexican worker’s Christmas bonuses arrived serving as a collective effort to stimulate the Mexican economy.

Secondly, I personally was able to shop at Plaza Ley and buy 1/3 more on a suggested list of items that the boys at Hogar San Pablo need for some of their Christmas presents. Basic items like undershorts and socks were on that list.

Remember we are in Mexico, and things don’t always translate into “gringo” terms and concepts here.

And you, what were you able to better this past weekend?

what can I say, amiga Lynne?…I am glad that you got some good deals and I am glad that Calderon “challenged” businesses to scale back in order to help out the people..as for the somewhat snide remarks in your post, well, thanks for the geopolitical orientation and thanks for the humanitarian insinuations, but I feel that I am very conscientious in both realms…
