Apple's latest smartphone now in Mexico.
Mexico’s telecommunications giant, Telcel, announced in a press conference yesterday that the Apple Corporation’s iPhone 4 will be available in their stores and selected Sanborns locations beginning August 27th.
The two models offered of 16GB and 32GB will be serviced by a 3.5G internet system (HSDPA) throughout the country.
Telcel is offering three plans for Mexican consumers who have been waiting for the opportunity to own the latest in smartphone technology:
- You can get the 16GB version free, if you sign up for Telcel’s Mas x Menos (more for less) plan for 24 months at a cost of 1,235 pesos per month, or
- Take a prepaid plan for the 16GB iPhone 4 at a cost of 9,379 pesos, or
- Opt for the 32 GB prepaid plan for 10,949 pesos.
Mexican bloggers have already jumped on what they consider to be Telcel’s overpriced offers, pointing out that the iPad sells in Mexico for 7,498 pesos, and the 16GB iPhone 4 sells in the States for $199US (approx. 2,500 pesos).
Apple launched iPhone 4 in the States on June 7th and despite customer complaints of poor reception, sold 1.7 million of the smartphones in the first four weeks of being on the market.
